Volunteers Needed – Spring 2017
Hello! My name is Jacqualine Lombardo and I am the Executive Director of Support Ministries, Inc., Capital Region (SMICR). Taking this position in December of 2016 has already proven to be rewarding and challenging; we have a lot of big changes going on within the agency and all of the staff and clients are excited to see them all come to fruition.
We have a commitment to our residents to make their homes welcoming, inviting and warm. As some of you may know, our programs offer an array of benefits, most notably, permanent and supportive housing for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. By providing permanency, our residents and clients are able to better manage their day to day activities and increase their independence and life skills.
Our largest program is a licensed adult care facility in Waterford, NY, that provides single room occupancy to up to 17 individuals. In ensuring compliance and the best assistance possible to residents at Ahana House, we have hired a new House Administrator, Kelly Shea, we are in process of re-training all of our resident assistants and making cosmetic and safety changes to the home so that the residents are given the most effective services we have to offer!
We are currently looking for volunteers for projects, including painting of the interior of the home and exterior landscaping. Our current needs surround obtaining new furniture for our residents’ bedrooms and our resident kitchen.
If you, your company or friends and peers are interested in assisting SMICR in bettering the lives of chronically homeless individuals living with HIV/AIDS, would like to make any type of donation, or would like more information on our programs, please feel free to reach out to us!
