Founded in 1987, SMICR’s core mission has been to address the needs of chronically homeless individuals living with Chronic Illness that hinder their ability to live independently and healthfully. Our resources include Permanent Housing, Transitional Housing, and Scattered Site Apartment options.
Arvilla House, a two story 6 bedroom permanent housing SRO (Single Room Occupancy) for women, is located in the city of Albany. Residents enjoy a fully furnished private bedroom that is cable ready, with no additional cost to the resident. Women enjoy a common area kitchen fully stocked with everything you need to prepare nutritious meals, a dining room, shared bathroom, spacious living room with a flat screen TV , DVD player and Cable. We also provide a free laundry room on site. Residents are responsible for preparing their own meals and are assigned chores to keep the house clean. We are a drug and alcohol free program providing those in recovery a safe environment.
Our staff members are here to assist our residents in the development of skill necessary to foster independence and to have a successful and sober life. We provide information and referrals to needed services and community events that may motivate them toward better choices.
We are fully staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week and Residents are welcome to stay as long as necessary to ensure the highest possible success.
Ahana House, located in Waterford, NY, 20 minutes outside of Albany, is a licensed 17 bed Adult home for males and females. Residents enjoy a private bedroom and share spacious common areas of the home. All food is provided to the residents as well as assistance with light house-keeping and daily living skills. Staff also assists with case and medication management, personal care needs and other supportive services that are necessary for our residents to live as independently as possible. Ahana is handicap accessible and makes navigation of the house easy with large hallways and an elevator.
Ahana House is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the safety of our residents.
Located in Albany, NY, Jim Perry House is a 6 bedroom, transitional SRO for men. Offering all of the amenities of Arvilla House (Women’s House), which is located next door, men are able to enjoy their own bedroom, fully furnished that is cable ready at no additional cost, and shared common areas such as the kitchen, bathroom and dining room and on-site laundry. Sharing staff with Arvilla House, the male residents are able to have access to assistance in the development of the skills necessary to foster independence and to have a successful and sober life. We provide information and referrals to needed services and community events that may motivate them toward better choices.

Project HELP is a scattered site permanent housing option for those who are capable of living completely independently in the heart of Albany, NY. This program contains a total of 6 apartments, three for individuals and three for families. SMICR provides a fully furnished apartment, case management services and access to the staff of SMICR if they are in need of any referrals or other services necessary to maintain their independent lifestyle. Residents are responsible for contributing a portion of their income toward rent.
